  • Clandestino Pub

758 Washington Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    305-397-8946

Beer & tapas make a great pair. Just ask the regulars at this unassuming spot. As far as brew options, they've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 bottles of beer on the wall -- plus drafts, wine and cocktails to boot. Pair your fave fermented option with tapas, including quesadillas, tacos, nachos and hot dogs cooked in beer. It's a pleasing alternative to the usual South Beach scene.

  • Lagniappe

3425 NE Second Ave. Midtown/Wynwood/Design District

    305-576-0108

This indoor/outdoor hodgepodge of a place is named for a small gift traditionally bestowed upon a customer by a merchant, and the moniker couldn't be more fitting. At this serve-yourself Midtown bar, you pick your craft beer, cheese, and wine, pay at the counter, and then plant yourself in a lawn chair beneath twinkling lights. Lagniappe offers live music — and sitting under the stars on a balmy night while listening to a band evokes an evening more New Orleans than Miami.

  • BarMeli Miami

    725 NE 79th St. Miami Shores/Biscayne Park

    305-754-5558

This tapas and wine bar shares a small, slightly seedy shopping center with a hair salon and a tiny gym that promises personal training at discount prices. That makes it seem all the more like a hidden gem, a personal find, one of those so-called secret places that people whisper about to their friends, as in "I just found this great little joint." Inside, the restaurant feels like one of those wonderful little bistros or tavernas seen in movies. You really can't pinpoint the exact country or town; you just know it's damn charming. The bar is a welcoming place for commiserating with a comrade over a tough workday. The place is also friendly enough if you're on your own. Wines are predominantly from the Mediterranean, with some interesting selections from Sardinia and Israel. The tapas are all delicious, but the show-stopper is the flaming saganaki. The Greek cheese dish is doused with brandy and set aflame. Proteins include plenty of lamb, octopus, and a chicken breast that's nicely charred on the outside and juicy on the inside. Vegetarians have many options, such as piquillo peppers stuffed with manchego cheese, pine nuts, and almonds. A friendly, casual vibe, along with good food and drinks at reasonable prices, make BarMeli a great neighborhood joint. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/restaurants/barmeli-wonderful-tapas-and-affordable-wines-define-this-neighborhood-joint-7560716

  • Bin No. 18

    1800 Biscayne Blvd. Downtown/Overtown

    786-235-7575

This family-run wine bar/European market, a casually industrial, loftlike space with a dining and drinking area up front and a limited selection of boutique wines and charcuterie items in back, is rough-edged. And that's a big part of its charm. The eat-in fare is just sandwiches, salads, small plates, and large charcuterie platters for sharing. But chef Alfredo Patino is the former chef de cuisine at Bizcaya (the Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove's ultra-upscale restaurant), and the sophistication shows in elegant tapas like warm figs brûlée (fresh figs stuffed with Cambozola cheese and hazelnuts, drizzled with sweet-tart aged balsamic vinegar), sandwiches such as the Roast Beefeclectic on fresh-baked ciabatta (with caramelized onions, horseradish cream, and au jus), or a crab cake with smoked coleslaw and dijon mustard cream sauce. Ask about specials, since they may not always be mentioned (but if one is lentil soup, made from the chef's mom's recipe, you want it). In fact, ask for anything, if you notice a cheese or cured meat in the market counter that isn't being used on the menu. This eatery is informally friendly, yet unusually creative, enough that the chef might well accommodate you.Read our full review.

  • Bunbury

    55 NE 14th St. Midtown/Wynwood/Design District

    305-333-6929

It may be the funky space (a converted tire shop filled with tchotchkes and mismatched furniture), the upbeat music (Frankie Valli and Neil Diamond followed by a contemporary DJ and even live jazz some nights), the booze (it's a wine bar owned by two Argentine sommeliers) or all three, but Bunbury in Edgewater is simply charming. The twinkle lights on the terrace, Latin small plates, and fair prices also make it an ideal spot for large parties and intimate dates alike; by 8:30 p.m., the place brims with both. Regarding those small plates: In the year Bunbury has been open, its baked empanadas have gained a devoted following. A recent special consisting of spinach, zucchini, and Parmesan didn't disappoint; the bronzed crescent packed flavor and crunch. Another comforting and crowd-pleasing menu item is a plate of gently fried shrimp balls. Each orb contains a concentrated dose of tasty crustacean with a subtle spiciness. Bottom line: A night at Bunbury is as fun as it looks and sounds.

  • Cibo Wine Bar

45 Miracle Mile Coral Gables/S. Miami

    305-442-4925

Nobody knows wining and dining like the Italians, and Cibo Wine Bar is a modern, sophisticated take on the centuries-old concept. You could even call it wine heaven, and there's even an angel involved. Like any good spirit, she takes flight (via harness), procuring bottles of vino for guests. To soak up the celestial spirits, they serve rustic Italian fare such as carpaccio, formaggi, risotto, spaghetti, pesce crudo, and homemade pizzas. There are cocktails too, for the wine-unenthused. So take a trip to Coral Gables' Miracle Mile and get a little Italian in you.

  • Happy Wine

5792 SW Eighth St. Westchester/West Miami

    305-262-2465

Happy Wine and Gourmet is more wine shop than anything else (and the bottle and case prices are among the lowest), but it's also part wine bar, where you can sit down and enjoy your wine with tapas and sandwiches at tables made from casks, crates, and a door-size plank of wood propped up by barrels at each end. A generous pour of the wine du jour is an inarguably great deal if you're imbibing by the glass, but most patrons prefer to pluck a bottle from the shelves. The sandwiches here feature fresh baguettes with a choice of seven fillings, including ham, turkey, prosciutto, and grilled chicken.

  • Krüs Kitchen

    3413 Main Highway Coconut Grove

    786-518-3998

Perched atop Sebastian Vargas' acclaimed Los Félix Mexican restaurant in Coconut Grove, bright and airy Krüs Kitchen does double duty as a sister restaurant and a wine market. Here Vargas, a veteran of stints at Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana in Italy and Eleven Madison Park in New York, taps into his global travels and local farm finds to create an evolving menu that mirrors the seasons. Within the concise list, seafood dishes stand out, highlighted by the smoked coconut rice entrée that delicately layers the grain with grilled crab and trout roe. Among the vegetable-based dishes, grilled oyster mushrooms are meaty and tender, artfully arranged like a crown atop a foam made from aged Parmesan and topped with a runny poached egg.

Lettuce & Tomato is a swank gastropub that offers an industrial yet warm atmosphere tucked away on West Dixie Highway at NE 171st Street. Featuring a juxtaposition of Latin and Asian flavors, the menu lists plates such as huevos rotos, served with hand-cut garlic French fries, sofrito, serrano ham, three fried eggs, and a pinch of sprouts; mantou, known as Asian-inspired steamed buns, stuffed with thick cuts of meat such as short rib or pork belly and drizzled with a homemade ají aioli sauce; and seared corvina with quinoa, slow-cooked mushrooms, piquillo peppers, and red onions.

  • Magie

8281 NE Second Ave. Upper Eastside

    305-982-7881

In a town filled with clubstaurants and fancy out-of-town imports, a low-key, no-fuss, high-quality wine bar was a welcome addition to Miami's dining scene when it arrived in 2024. Located in Little River, Magie opened as a counter-service wine and snack bar where guests pair bottles of wine or craft beer with no-fuss snacks in a lovely, dimly lit setting. The snacks range from tinned fish and caviar to an array of charcuterie choices, designed so you can vibe as if you're having a wine night at home. It's the perfect spot to top off a date-night dinner or to catch up with an old friend. Founder Caroline Strauss, a veteran of the Miami restaurant scene, wanted to create "a pop-up space for the community to hang and do their thing" — a description that fits Magie to a T. (And so popular that a Coconut Grove location debuted in 2025.)
