  • Azucar Nightclub

    2301 SW 32nd Ave. Coral Gables/S. Miami

    305-443-7657

Who says gay bars are only on the beach? Twist ain't the only game in town, just ask the regulars at Azúcar. This gay bar and drag palace is all kinds of flamboyant. Wednesday is Jock Night, featuring hottie hunks baring it in briefs; Thursday's all about the glam with Drag Wars; and Saturday nights mean free house drinks till 11:30. Expect to dance your saucy little heart out. And with regular drink specials like $2 Bud Lights and $4 Coronas, a night of flaming fun doesn't have to break the bank.

  • Georgie's Alibi Monkey Bar

    2266 Wilton Dr. Wilton Manors

    954-565-2526

Abuzz with playful conversation and flickering laughter, Georgie’s Alibi is the lighthearted hub of gay life in Wilton Manors. The spacious bar is a red-lighted lounge during its long and generous happy hour. When the light melts away, the music swells and ballad-bellowing divas flood the television-covered walls in a torrent of danceable beats.

  • Magnum Lounge

709 NE 79th St. Causeway Miami Shores/Biscayne Park

    305-757-3368

With its red-lit interior, lounge atmosphere, and American cuisine, nowhere else says old-time Miami quite like Magnum. This classic bar and restaurant is located on the 79th Street Causeway and is known as a hot spot for older gay gentlemen. When Liza Minnelli and Nina Simone aren't blasting over the speakers, a live crooner and pianist re-create Broadway's best in the small stage area at the center of the venue. Surrounding the piano are barstools where patrons swoon to songs by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Magnum is also known for its homestyle fried chicken ($18.50), and people travel far and wide to munch on its crisp goodness. When it's in season, try the avocado with crab appetizer ($15.95). And puttanesca pasta ($15.95) will fill you up before you hit the Shack Bar outside, where you can drink the night away on a dime. The bar is a little Cape Cod and a little Key West, making you feel like you're on vacation without leaving town. There's a TV set, fun music, and a half-off beer-and-booze happy hour that runs daily from 5 to 8. There are also $4 margaritas and bloody marys and $3 roadkill shots so you can stay lu-bricated, as Lionel Richie says, all night long.

  • Palace Bar & Restaurant

1052 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach South Beach

    305-531-7234

Stop by the Palace for a very South Beach experience. The gay-friendly restaurant and bar, which has been going strong for more than three decades, stages drag shows every evening and drag brunches on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Otherwise, know that the venue contains two bars: one indoors and designed for nighttime use, the other semi-outdoors. There's also a patio with dining tables. The presence of drag queens ensures the service is extra-attentive. Call ahead if you're set on taking in the famed brunch shows or nightly drag dinners.

  • Ramrod Fort Lauderdale

1508 NE Fourth Ave. Fort Lauderdale

    954-763-8219

Leather and light spirits, despite the serious sexual energy and sex-toy shop, make this indoor/outdoor bar a great place to hang out — or to pick up. Ramrod is basically the Cheers of Fort Lauderdale. There's something intriguing about bear culture that draws people in, whether you're a bear or not. Cub, bear, otter, or anything in between, it doesn't matter; the moment you walk into Ramrod, you can sense a community. In den-like fashion, the bar is dark, there are gargoyle statues everywhere, and they play minimal house music that's so old that it's already on trend again — but, then again, you're not there for the music anyway.

  • Score Nightclub

1437 Washington Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    305-535-1111

Adonis is in the house, South Beach style. Good luck getting past the attitude, though. Since its inception Score has been the epicenter of the well-coifed and tightly muscled set, and it can be tough to break into those tight-knit cliques, though things get looser as the night goes on.

  • Twist

1057 Washington Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    305-538-9478

A mainstay on Washington Avenue for over 15 years, Twist is the mother hen of South Beach gay clubs. Inside the spacious club you'll find seven different bars; a tiki bar, something called a "Frolic Lounge," a salsa room in the bottom floor, and a house music dance floor at the top. Still one of the few places where you can find go-go dancers at midnight on the beach, Twist is open seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 5 a.m. It's conveniently located near the popular 12th Street gay beach, and the 11th Street diner where Will Smith's "Miami" was shot.
